Australian SMS marketing

Make consent and opt-out handling visible in your process.

0TXT helps record and communicate preferences. Your business still needs a lawful basis to send, clear sender details and a working unsubscribe process.

Consent comes before the message

A result of NO_0TXT_MATCH means the service found no applicable record. It does not prove consent and does not authorise marketing. Keep your own evidence and honour requests received through other channels.

Make unsubscribing easy

ACMA’s guidance requires commercial messages to identify the sender and provide a working unsubscribe option. It says unsubscribe requests must be honoured within five working days, the facility must work for at least thirty days after sending, and people must not be required to provide extra personal information or create or log into an account.

Read ACMA’s current spam guidance. The 0TXT business agreement asks participating businesses to check requests each business day and apply them before their next marketing send; that operational commitment does not extend a legal deadline.

Keep direct unsubscribes separate from voluntary registration

A person using a business’s short unsubscribe link can record that request without an account or OTP. Verification is used when a person separately joins or leaves the broader voluntary register, to establish control of the entered number.

Check sender identification requirements with your SMS provider

Rules and provider processes for branded SMS sender IDs can change. Check the current ACMA requirements and your provider’s registration process before using a business-name sender. A registered sender name does not prove consent or remove unsubscribe obligations.

Participation is a commitment to act

0TXT is a private, voluntary service for participating businesses. It does not replace Australian law or the business’s responsibilities. The government Do Not Call Register does not cover SMS marketing.
